The hard-wired cable modem was only about 2 Mbps faster The average speed over five trials was 12.74 Mbps. The fastest download was 13.86 megabits per second (Mbps) – Verizon advertises a top speed of 12 Mbps. Not only was it fast, in some tests it was faster than the top speed claimed ![]() Once it was up and running, we used the Ookla Speedtest site to clock the network speed. I didn’t have high hopes at that point (there is a Mac driver as well). Using a roughly five-year-old Dell Inspiron running Windows 7 in a neighbor’s basement, setup took about an hour, installing drivers, updating drivers and reinstalling. Larger than average, but certainly not deal-breaking bulk.
